“Murder by Proxy”

A day after a gunman killed seven and wounded three others at a private university in Oakland, Calif. a pitch for a new documentary on workplace gun violence hit my inbox.

It's titled “Murder by Proxy: How America Went Postal.” A website for the documentary says the film “explores the basic question of what brings a seemingly normal person to the point of committing mass murder.”

I haven't seen it yet and I am not sure whether I will drop the $10 to order a copy of the documentary. But according to marketing information the film looks into “the complex interplay of personal and societal factors leading up to incidents of workplace massacres.”

One good thing about this documentary is it doesn't appear to take the easy route of only blaming access to guns. So I hope that means I won't be receiving disapproving comments from gun advocates as happens when I write about guns and workplace violence.

Not that I mind comments disapproving of my work or expect to please everyone. I just dislike it when people try to suppress all comment on important topics when they don't agree with the discussion.
