NEW YORK—Well-known captive insurance lawyer P. Bruce Wright is among six insurance industry attorneys who have left Dewey & LeBoeuf L.L.P. to join law firm Sutherland Asbill & Brennan L.L.P. in New York as partners.

The group includes James R. Dwyer, Jeffrey H. Mace, John S. Pruitt, Linda A. Sciuto and Cynthia R. Shoss. All previously were partners at New York-based Dewey & LeBoeuf.

Dewey & LeBoeuf said it is disappointed by the departures, but also said the law firm has a “deep bench.”

Mr. Wright is widely known in the industry for his work with captive insurers, risk retention groups and other types of alternative risk financing mechanisms, and is a frequent participant in captive industry events.

As a partner in Dewey & LeBoeuf’s tax department, Mr. Wright was involved in a variety of tax and insurance law issues and represented both domestic and foreign-based property/casualty insurers.

Before joining Sutherland, Mr. Mace led Dewey & LeBoeuf’s Lloyd’s of London and Lloyd’s market practice, while Mr. Pruitt and Ms. Shoss co-chaired their former firm’s insurance regulatory department.

Mr. Dwyer’s practice has focused on insurance transactional, regulatory and financing matters, and Ms. Sciuto has focused on taxation of Lloyd’s members and representing non-U.S. insurers doing business in the United States.

“These departures, while regrettable, we do not believe will change the conclusion that the firm is poised to have a very good economic year," Dewey & LeBoeuf said Tuesday in a statement. "We have a strong and deep bench as is evidenced by the results our professionals are producing for our clients and the firm.”
