OFF BEAT: Fox Sports insurer off the hook for March Madness bracket payouts

At least one media company won’t have to make good its promise to pay a large prize to anyone who correctly picked all 63 March Madness game winners this year.

Houston-based HCC Insurance Holding Inc. reportedly covered Fox Sports’ website promotional offer to give away a $1 million grand prize to anyone who completed a perfect bracket.

The odds of a perfect bracket were tough enough at the start of the tournament: more than 35 billion to one against. After several bracket-busting games eliminated top-seeded teams like Duke, Georgetown and Missouri, a Fox Sports representative said no perfect brackets remain in its contest, according to a report.
