WASHINGTON—Christopher Gagnon has been named director of strategic technology by the Washington-based Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers, the Washington-based producer group announced Thursday.

Mr. Gagnon will consult with council member firms on the strategic application of technology to promote business growth.

Ken A. Crerar, the council's president and CEO said technology is a key differentiator for agents and brokers. “Technology's place in insurance has tremendous potential and we're asking Chris to assist our member firms in embracing it and thinking differently about it,” said Mr. Crerar in a statement.

Mr. Gagnon has more than 15 years of experience developing and directing technology strategy for large insurance brokers, including serving as CIO of Atlanta-based Beecher Carlson Holdings Inc. Gagnon left Beecher Carlson in 2008 and founded Tiebeam Partners, a technology consulting company serving insurance agencies.

To aid Mr. Gagnon's transition to his new role, he will work alongside the council's longtime technology director, Frank Sentner, through May. Mr. Sentner is leaving the council to pursue a position with Work at Home Vintage Employees L.L.C.
