Employer group urges delay in benefit summary rule

The American Benefits Council is urging the Obama administration to delay a rule—now set to go into effect for plan years that begin on or after Sept. 23, 2012-- that will require employers to revamp how they communicate and explain their health care benefit plans to employees. “The implementation period for these requirements is unnecessarily abrupt, disruptive and burdensome and should either be delayed by twelve months to minimize these adverse consequences or provide a simple transition rule,” the trade group says.
