Hartford names veterans, including ex-Chartis exec, to commercial market posts

HARTFORD, Conn.—The Harford Financial Services Group Inc. has appointed several veterans to commercial market leadership positions, the insurer announced Wednesday.

Tom Tucker has been named chief underwriting officer for commercial markets and head of specialty casualty effective next Monday. He will report to Doug Elliot, president of the commercial markets division.

Previously, Mr. Tucker was chief underwriter and chief risk officer of U.S. operations at Chartis Inc.

Gary Thompson will continue leading middle-market product and underwriting after assuming the position on an interim basis last fall. In addition, he will now head sales and distribution as well. Previously, he was head of specialty commercial and chief underwriting officer of commercial markets.

Mike Concannon has been named the head of Hartford's group benefits segment. He will succeed Ron Gendreau, who will retire after a transitional period.

Previously, Mr. Concannon was executive vp of sales and distribution for the property/casualty and group benefits businesses. He will be based in Simsbury, Conn.
