WICHITA, Kan.—American International Group Inc. Chairman Robert S. “Steve” Miller will become CEO of Hawker Beechcraft Inc., effective Tuesday, Hawker Beechcraft announced Tuesday.

Hawker Beechcraft, a Wichita, Kan.-based aircraft manufacturer, announced Mr. Miller's appointment on Tuesday. He succeeds Bill Boisture, who will remain as chairman of the company's operating subsidiary, Hawker Beechcraft Corp.

Mr. Miller was named chairman of AIG in 2010 and in October of that year, the company announced that he would serve as temporary CEO if CEO Robert Benmosche had to step down due to his previously announced battle with cancer.

The AIG board “has an active succession planning process and will be assessing its plans in light of Mr. Miller's announcement,” said a company spokesman Tuesday.

“Mr. Miller continues to serve as chairman of the board at AIG,” said the spokesman. “Any change in that regard would be publicly disclosed.”

The spokesman added that Mr. Benmosche has said in recent interviews that “he is feeling good, wants to stay on past this year, and continues to work toward the taxpayers recovering their investment in AIG at a profit and returning the company to its pre-eminence as the most valuable insurance company in the world.”
