SPRINGFIELD, Ill.—Andrew Boron has been appointed director of the Illinois Department of Insurance.

Mr. Boron previously was vp and counsel-state government and industry affairs at ACE Ltd. He also served as counsel and director of state government relations at CNA Financial Corp., as well as deputy chief of staff at the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority.

“Andrew Boron brings a wide range of experience to the Department of Insurance, and I am confident his strong leadership will enhance the essential regulatory and consumer protections DOI provides,” Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn said in a statement late last week. “I want to thank the acting directors for their excellent work while we conducted this nationwide search.”

Michael McRaith, the last permanent director of the department, joined the Obama administration last year as the first director of the new Federal Insurance Office.
