David Black exits as South Carolina insurance director, acting director named

COLUMBIA, S.C.—Gwen Fuller McGriff has been named acting director of the South Carolina Department of Insurance.

Ms. McGriff succeeds David Black, who resigned without explanation Wednesday.

Mr. Black, a former president and CEO of Liberty Life Insurance Co., a Greenville, S.C.-based subsidiary of the Royal Bank of Canada, was appointed insurance director by South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley in January.

Before she was named acting director of the department, Ms. McGriff previously was director of legal, legislative and external affairs for the South Carolina Department of Insurance.
