Early Retiree Reinsurance Program coming to an end

The health care reform law created a $5 billion program that partially reimburses employers and other early retiree health care plan sponsors for a portion of claims. Because of the rapid reimbursement of claims, though, the program is now nearly out of money and will not reimburse plans for claims incurred after Dec. 31, 2011, the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services says in new guidance.
