Gallagher, Willis announce acquisitions

Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. has acquired Salt Lake City-based Transwestern General Agency, Inc., Itasca, Ill.-based Gallagher announced Friday.

Transwestern General Agency, which has been in business for more than 65 years, is a managing general agent and wholesale insurance broker that provides excess and surplus, property/casualty, professional business liability and other specialty insurance products and services to their independent insurance agent and broker clients primarily in the Intermountain Western United States. According to Gallagher, the company specializes in insurance coverage for high net worth individuals and the transportation industry.

Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

On Monday, Willis Italy--part of Willis Group Holdings P.L.C.--announced the acquisition of Broking Italia SRL, a Rome-based specialist in the Italian insurance market.

Broking Italia specializes in employee benefits and is a leader in supplementary pension programs, according to Willis.

Terms of the transaction were not announced.
