XL Insurance names executives in professional lines unit

HAMILTON, Bermuda—XL Insurance (Bermuda) Ltd. announced the promotion of Matthew Irvine to chief underwriting officer and of Stephen Outerbridge as senior vp, underwriter, within its professional lines unit Wednesday, effective immediately.

Mr. Irvine succeeds James Loder, who was named chief underwriting officer/senior vp of XL unit CSI-Complex Situational Insurance this week. Mr. Irvine, who will be responsible for a team of 11 underwriters and support people, joined XL's Lloyd's syndicate operation, XL London Market Ltd., in 1998. He transferred to XL's professional lines unit in Bermuda in 2002.

Mr. Outerbridge, who reports to Mr. Irvine, was senior vp, president/manager of the professional lines department at Bermuda-based Ariel Reinsurance Co. Ltd. a subsidiary of Ariel Holdings Ltd., from 2006 to 2010.
