ASHRM conference in Phoenix attracts 1,700 attendees

PHOENIX—The American Society for Healthcare Risk Management's Annual Conference and Exhibition, held Oct. 16-19, drew more than 1,700 attendees to the Phoenix Convention Center.

Subjects covered during the conference sessions included best practices in handling workplace violence and rogue physicians, how to manage social media exposures and data breach risks, and identifying exposures when trying to establish accountable care organizations.

ASHRM also swore in Andrew Oppenberg as president-elect, along with other board members. Mr. Oppenberg is the director of risk management and patient safety officer for Glendale Memorial Hospital and Health Center in Glendale, Calif.

The new officers begin their terms Jan. 1, and Mr. Oppenberg will serve as president in 2013.

ASHRM's next conference is scheduled for Oct. 7-10, 2012, in Washington.
