JERSEY CITY, N.J.—Suffolk County, N.Y., suffered more insured property damage from Hurricane Irene than any other county in its path, according to an analysis released Monday by Verisk Analytics.

According to Verisk’s Catastrophe Index, which combines information on catastrophes that its Property Claim Services and AIR Worldwide Corp. units develop independently, Suffolk County suffered more than $200 million in insured property damage from Hurricane Irene, with Dare County, N.C., coming in second with nearly as much damage.

Six other counties also sustained insured property damage in excess of $150 million, according to Verisk.

Verisk said that New Jersey, New York and North Carolina were the top three states in terms of insured property damage from Irene, with each sustaining more than $500 million.
