HARTFORD, Conn.—A new suite of professional liability insurance coverage for privately held and nonprofit health care firms is now available from the Hartford Financial Services Group Inc.

Private Choice Encore for Healthcare Organizations provides coverage for directors and officers, employee practices, crime, fiduciary liability and kidnap and ransom risks, The Hartford announced Wednesday.

Expansion options for Private Choice Encore also could respond to risks specific to the health care industry, including allegations involving peer review, credentialing and other provider selection activities, as well as antitrust claims and coverage for defense of violations of the Federal False Claims Act, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act and the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act.

‘Significant risk’

“As health care organizations navigate today's rapidly evolving economic and regulatory landscape, their management teams face significant risk related to their operational oversight and employment practices,” said Michael Dandini, senior vp of The Hartford's management and professional liability underwriting unit, in a company statement. “This policy is designed to provide tailored liability coverage for directors and officers in the health care industry.”

Private Choice Encore is the second new product targeting non-public companies the Hartford has launched this month. The company released a data breach protection suite aimed at small business owners last week.
