NEW YORK—Allied World Assurance Co. Holdings A.G. said Tuesday that Allied World U.S. is expanding its property/casualty operations with the launch of a new inland marine division.

The new segment will target all filed and nonfiled classes of inland marine business in the United States, with a focus on the construction industry, the insurer said in a statement.

Alan Crater has been appointed vp of the inland marine division. He will be based in New York and report to Todd Germano, president of Allied World U.S.’s property/casualty unit.

Mr. Crater most recently worked at the Hanover Insurance Group Inc., where he was responsible for several underwriting operations including marine, both ocean and inland.

The inland marine division is available to insureds in all 50 states on admitted or surplus lines basis, the Zug, Switzerland-based insurer said in a statement, adding that it will provide broad coverage with limits of up to $50 million. Coverage is available for all inland marine classes, including commercial output program exposures, the insurer said in a statement.
