LONDON—Activity during this year's Atlantic hurricane season is expected to be above normal, London-based Tropical Storm Risk said Monday.

Based on current and projected climate indicators, TSR said there is a 55% chance, or moderate likelihood, that activity in the Atlantic basin will be one of busiest historically.

In its forecast, TSR said there is a 59% probability that a hurricane will make landfall in the United States.

The forecast, which covers the June 1-Nov. 30 hurricane season, is based on data collected through the end of March.

TSR uses expertise drawn from insurance industry companies such as Aon Benfield, RSA Insurance Group P.L.C. and Crawford & Co., as well as climate physicists and meteorologists from University College London.
