House OKs National Flood Insurance Program extension

WASHINGTON—The U.S. House has approved extending the National Flood Insurance Program through the end of September.

The Wednesday voice vote approved a measure introduced by Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., that would extend the program in its current form. The program lapsed earlier this month.

Separate legislation has been introduced in the House that would require the program to offer windstorm as well as flood coverage, an expansion opposed by much of the property/casualty insurance industry.

A tax bill that would extend NFIP through the end of the year has been stalled in the U.S. Senate.
