Validus premiums up in second quarter

HAMILTON, Bermuda— Bermuda-based insurance and reinsurance company Validus Holdings Ltd. has reported a combined ratio of 55.3% for its second quarter results. The figure for the first half of 2007 is only slightly higher at 59.5%.

Gross written premiums for the second quarter of 2007 stand at $174.3 million — an increase of 57.6%, and are up by 54% for the year as a whole to $552.4 million, the company said.

Figures for net written premiums are a 100.2% increase to $147.5 million, and a 48.3% increase to $244.5 million.
