Aviva says loss from July floods $333 million

LONDON— Aviva P.L.C. said it sustained a £165 million ($333.8 million) loss from the floods that hit the United Kingdom in July.

In announcing its results for the first six months of 2007, the London-based insurer said that losses from the July floods would be reflected in its full-year figures. Aviva said that "some of the worst floods in living memory" in northern England in June had impacted its U.K. business which posted a loss of £235 million ($475.7 million) because of adverse weather.

Overall, the company posted a pretax profit of £1.20 billion ($2.43 billion) for the first six months of 2007, on an International Financial Reporting Standards-basis, a 3% fall compared with the same period last year.
