CHICAGO--Aon Corp. has promoted Ted T. Devine to chief executive officer of Aon Re Global, the Chicago-based broker's reinsurance intermediary unit.

He succeeds Michael D. O'Halleran, formerly Aon Re Global's chairman and CEO, who has been named executive chairman of the unit.

Mr. Devine, who previously was chief operating officer of Aon Risk Services Americas and head of global strategy for Aon, joined the broker in 2005. Before that, he served as a leader of McKinsey & Co.'s North American Insurance Practice and North American Insurance Operations and Technology efforts.

Aon President and CEO Gregory C. Case said Mr. Devine's background as "kind of the ultimate insurance insider" along with his focus since working at Aon on organic growth will be a "very powerful combination."
