HARTFORD, Conn.--Aetna Inc. has promoted Mark Bertolini to president, effective immediately.
Mr. Bertolini, who had been executive vp and head of business operations, will assume the duties of president from Aetna Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Ronald Williams.
In the position, Mr. Bertolini will continue to be responsible for the management of Aetna's businesses and report directly to Mr. Williams.
The promotion by the Hartford, Conn.-based insurer reflects Mr. Bertolini's success within the company, a spokesman said. He has served as the head of several important divisions of Aetna, including its specialty products and regional businesses, since joining the company in February 2003.
