New York Life Insurance Co. has named Christine Park vp of corporate responsibility and president of the New York Life Foundation with responsibility for managing the New York-based company's philanthropic and volunteer activities. Ms. Park recently served as president of the Alcatel-Lucent Foundation.
Angelo M. Guagliano has been promoted to president and chief executive officer of Max Bermuda Ltd. Mr. Guagliano previously was executive vp and chief underwriting officer of Hamilton-based Max Bermuda. He succeeds W. Marston Becker, who will continue to serve as chairman of Max Bermuda as well as chairman and CEO of parent company Max Capital Group Ltd.
Mike Mitrovic has been named president of IronPro Claims, the claims operation of New York-based IronPro, a professional liability facility launched in May by Hamilton, Bermuda-based Ironshore Inc. Most recently, Mr. Mitrovic was president of AIG Worldwide Financial Lines Claims and vp of claims for parent American International Group Inc.
Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.-based USI Holdings Corp. has named Vincent E. Nerlino executive vp and chief financial officer. Mr. Nerlino most recently was vp and CFO at American Express International and Global Services. He succeeds Robert S. Schneider, who left to pursue other opportunities, according to USI.
Joseph J. Beneducci has stepped down as CEO of Novato, Calif.-based Fireman's Fund Insurance Co. Allianz of America Inc. President Chuck Kavitsky, who was Fireman's Fund CEO from 2004 to 2006, has been named interim CEO.
New York-based Marsh Inc. has named Mark C. McGivney CFO. Mr. McGivney most recently was senior vp of finance, corporate treasurer and CFO for Hanover Insurance Group's property/casualty operation. He succeeds Jerome Bailey, who left the company last year.
Jeffrey M. Hafter has been promoted to president of San Francisco-based C.V. Starr & Co., a unit of the New York-based holding company C.V. Starr & Co Inc. Mr. Hafter most recently was executive vp of C.V. Starr & Co.
Theo Bouts has been named CEO of Direct Business, a new unit formed by Switzerland-based Zurich Financial Services Group to bring personal and small commercial direct insurance operations in Europe under a single management structure. Mr. Bouts formerly was chief operating officer of Europe General Insurance.
Stamford, Conn.-based Towers Perrin has named Robert G. Hogan, formerly managing director, as COO of its HR Services unit.
Novato, Calif.-based Enwisen Inc. has named Deepjot Chhabra president. Previously, he was senior vp of product strategy and business development.
Myron Hendry has been named COO and managing director of Thousand Oaks, Calif.-based Countrywide Insurance Group. Mr. Hendry previously was executive vp and COO.
Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. has appointed Thomas Marra to the newly created position of president and COO. In his new role, Mr. Marra, a member of the company's board and previously president and COO of Hartford Life, will oversee both life and property/casualty operations for the Hartford, Conn.-based insurer. Ramani Ayer will give up his role as president but will remain Hartford's chairman and CEO.
Christopher J. Nadeau, principal and employee benefits group leader at William Gallagher Associates is the new chair of The Council of Employee Benefits Executives, a standing committee of the Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers charged with overseeing the association's services for member firms with employee benefit operations.
Newark, Calif.-based Risk Management Solutions has named Sandra Cruze as lead of quality assurance and vp. She joins RMS from Google, where she was engineering director of quality.
The Keane Organization in Wayne, Pa., has promoted Dorothy J. Flynn to chief executive officer. Previously, she was chief operating officer.
Matthew L. Jacobs has joined Jenner & Block's Washington office as a partner in the firm's litigation department and its insurance litigation and counseling practice. Previously, he led the insurance coverage practice of the Washington office of Kirkpatrick & Lockhart Preston Gates Ellis L.L.P.
Parsippany, N.J.-based GAB Robins North America Inc. has named Libby Evans liability product line director. Before her promotion, she was senior casualty instructor.
Peggy Stromme has been named partner in Seattle-based Alexander Morford & Woo Inc. She was promoted to chief financial officer in 2006.
MarketScout, the Dallas-based online insurance exchange, has named Jay Chase chief underwriting officer and senior vp. Previously, he was vp of Argonaut Insurance Co.
Benfield Group Ltd. has appointed Bob Bisset as team leader of the company's Bermuda office. Previously, he was senior vp of the Boston office.
New York-based Guy Carpenter & Co. L.L.C. has named Joan Lamm-Tennant global chief economist and risk strategist. Previously, she was senior vp General Reinsurance and the president of General Re Capital Consultants.
Beecher Carlson has appointed David Forsyth to lead the company's Northern California operations in San Francisco. Most recently, he was senior managing director at Frank Crystal & Co.
Also, Beecher Carlson has expanded its executive liability team with the appointments of Leaticia Roberts as client service manager in Atlanta and Kimberly Fine as senior vp in the New York office. Previously, Ms. Roberts was client representative team leader for the Marsh FINPRO team in Atlanta. Ms. Fine joins Beecher Carlson from ALM, formerly American Lawyer Media, where she was a managing director.
Chicago-based Aon Corp. has named Kathleen Felderman as real estate senior vp for Aon Risk Services. Previously, she was senior vp and director of real estate for Lockton Cos. L.L.C.'s national real estate practice.
Boston-based Liberty Mutual Group has named Raymond Waters senior account executive for its major accounts division. Previously, he was vp of business development for GAB Robins North America Inc.
Hamilton, Bermuda-based Catlin Group Ltd. has named Nick Greggains chief underwriting officer-insurance and Andrew Englesbe has been appointed as chief underwriting officer-reinsurance for Catlin US, Catlin's underwriting platform in the United States. Mr. Greggains most recently was president and chief operating officer of XL Design Professional. Mr. Englesbe previously was director of property facultative reinsurance for Catlin US.
Flagstone Reinsurance Holdings Ltd. has appointed several industry executives to senior underwriting positions:

  • Andreas Peter, who has joined Flagstone Re subsidiary Flagstone Reassurance Suisse S.A., previously was global head of aviation and space at Zurich, Switerland-based Swiss Reinsurance Co.
  • Dominic Kirby previously was chief underwriting officer for global marine and energy at The Navigators Group Inc. of New York.
  • Rafael Saer had been a senior vp and branch manager, Latin America and Spanish Caribbean operations, for New York-based Folksamerica Reinsurance Co., a subsidiary of White Mountains Re Group Ltd.
  • Irshied Tayeb will be responsible for building Flagstone Re's presence in the Middle East and North America. Mr. Tayeb previously was director of insurance and reinsurance at the Dubai Financial Services Authority in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

James A. Rodda, a certified public accountant with extensive background in accounting and controller issues as well as Sarbanes-Oxley Act compliance, has joined the Washington-based Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers as CFO. He joins the CIAB from Resources Global Professionals. In addition to his CPA designation, Mr. Rodda is a certified fraud examiner.
San Francisco-based United Behavioral Health has named Dr. William Bonfield senior medical director for its public sector business segment. Previously, he was chief medical officer at ValueOptions Inc.
Rebecca McLaughlan has been appointed managing director for McGraw Wentworth, an employee group benefits company in Troy, Mich. She previously was practice leader and principal, and will continue as an account director.
Columbia, S.C.-based BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina and Planned Administrators Inc. have named David Huntington president and COO of PAI. Previously, he was vp of large-group marketing of the third-party administrator.
New York-based Guy Carpenter & Co. L.L.C. has named Simon Welton senior vp of the firm's U.K. retrocessional practice in London. Most recently, he served as underwriting officer of Pentelia Capital Management.
New York-based Assurant Inc. has named Gene Mergelmeyer president of Assurant Specialty Property. Before his promotion, he was executive vp.
Springfield, Mass.-based MassMutual Retirement Income has appointed Douglas G. Russell senior vp, COO and chief financial officer. He most recently was senior vp and head of client services for Prudential Retirement.
Jeff Cox has been named president and chief executive of Haake Cos., an Overland Park, Kan.-based insurance brokerage. Charlie Haake, who previously held those titles, becomes chairman. Mr. Cox most recently was president and chief operating officer of the Lockton Cos. Inc.'s affinity group.
Atlanta-based Beecher Carlson has appointed Gerald Levine managing director, responsible for client development for Beecher Carlson's risk management practice in Old Lyme, Conn. Previously, he was executive vp of Webster Insurance.
Kerry R. Martin has joined the Buffalo Grove, Ill.-based Plexus Groupe Inc. as COO. He most recently was senior vp for Aon Corp. in its financial services group.
Redwood City, Calif.-based ABD Insurance & Financial Services Inc. has named Brian Hetherington executive vp and managing director of property/casualty services for ABD's Redwood City headquarters. Previously, he was senior vp, managing director, technology and global specialties.
Gloria Lesmeister has joined Buck Consultants L.L.C. as principal and Houston retirement practice leader. Previously, she was a senior actuary with Watson Wyatt Worldwide.
Atlanta-based Crawford & Co. has appointed Kevin Frawley as executive vp for global business development. He will continue to lead Crawford Strategic Warranty Services and oversee Garden City Group Inc.
Phoenix-based Schaller Anderson Inc., which administers physical and behavioral health care for Medicaid, Medicare, commercial and employer self-funded plans, has named Dr. Laura Nelson medical director of behavioral health/physical health integration. Previously, she was medical director of the Arizona Department of Health Services' behavioral health division.
Also at Schaller, Dr. Jack Weiss, formerly COO for Amerigroup Community Care, has been named medical director of clinical operations in Schaller Anderson's medical management department.
Washington-based Dickstein Shapiro L.L.P. has named James R. Murray as partner in the firm's insurance coverage practice. He joins the firm from Gordon Murray Tilden L.L.P., where he was a founding partner.
Al Phelps has joined Buck Consultants' Chicago office as principal. Previously, he was principal at Mercer Human Resources Consulting.
Also at Buck, James Clark has been named Director in the Secaucus, NJ office. Previously, he was vp and consulting actuary at The Segal Co.
EMCAS, a division of Engle Martin & Associates Inc., a claims administration and adjusting firm, has named Stephen A. Saybolt director of claims. Previously, he was a claims manager for Caronia Corp., a division of Sedgwick Claims Management Systems.
APEX Management Group, a division of Gallagher Benefit Services Inc. in Princeton, N.J., has named Shane Byrne director of health care informatics. Mr. Byrne, who will be based in Las Vegas, previously was director of analytics with HealthDataInsights and DataXCorp.
Mark Bertolini has been promoted to president of Hartford, Conn.-based Aetna Inc. from his prior post as executive vp and head of business operations. He takes over the duties of president from Ronald Williams, Aetna's chairman and CEO.
King of Prussia, Pa.-based Devon Health Services Inc. has promoted Brian D. Atkinson to COO. Previously, he was vp of sales.
New York-based Swiss Re Capital Management & Advisory has named Jamshid Ehsani managing director, head of life assets. Previously, he was president and chief risk officer of InsCap Management L.L.C.
George Zippel has been named president and global CEO of Hamilton, Bermuda-based Scottish Re Group Ltd. Mr. Zippel most recently was president and CEO of a unit of Richmond, Va.-based Genworth Financial Inc.
New York-based Assurant Inc. has promoted Christopher J. Pagano to executive vp and treasurer. He will retain his role as president and chief investment officer of Assurant Asset Management.
Also at Assurant, Miles B. Yakre has moved to Assurant Employee Benefits as senior vp and chief actuary. Previously, he was senior vp, corporate actuary and treasurer for Assurant.
Ann Haugh has been named chief operating officer of Zurich Financial Services Group's global corporate unit in North America. Ms. Haugh, who will be based in New York, most recently was executive vp of Zurich's mergers and acquisitions unit.
Schaumburg, Ill.-based Zurich North America has named Kenneth Kovar head of U.S. domestic energy casualty in Houston. Before his promotion, he was a primary casualty manager.
Also at Zurich, Robert Lindemann has been named COO of the commercial markets business unit. Formerly, he was president of its Zurich North America commercial's middle markets business.
Hamilton, Bermuda-based XL Capital Ltd. has appointed Brian W. Nocco executive vp and chief financial officer. Before joining XL, Mr. Nocco was chief risk officer of Nationwide Insurance Group.
Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. in Simsbury, Conn., has promoted Robert Reiff to senior vp and director of distribution and field service for its group benefits division. Previously, he was a vp.
Hanover Insurance Group Inc. has named John J. Leahy executive vp and CFO. Before joining the Worcester, Mass.-based insurer, he was executive vp and CFO of Keane Inc.
Shelby Hollister has been named vp and chief life underwriter for the U.S. insurance group of Springfield, Mass.-based Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co. Previously, she was underwriting director at Hartford Life.
Frank Hernandez has been named senior vp, marine and energy team, at BMS Intermediaries Inc. in Philadelphia. Previously, he served as executive vp, global marine and energy, at Towers Perrin.
