Help

BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

Tami L. Singer

New job title: Commercial underwriting manager of the Los Angeles branch of Burns & Wilcox

Start date: March 1

Previous position: Senior commercial underwriter

Reason for joining Burns & Wilcox: I joined Burns & Wilcox for the opportunities afforded to me. The market availability is such that I can successfully produce business and maintain partnerships with my key agents and brokers.

Vital statistics: I obtained my Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (designation) in 1984 and Certified Insurance Counselor (designation) in 2003, currently enrolled in the Associate in Surplus Lines Insurance (program). I've started excess and surplus (lines) departments and grown them from the ground up with markets and agent appointments; I've owned my own wholesale brokerage operation; I've run both managing general agency and brokerage operations for large wholesalers in Southern California.

Goals for new position: I will continue to grow a profitable book of business and maintain successful relationships with both carriers and customers.

First time in the job market: My first job was in the file room at a Los Angeles wholesale brokerage firm. I thought a dead file meant they truly were dead.

Top advice: The best advice I've ever received was to get my CPCU. It has opened many doors for me.

Outside the industry, a dream job: If I wasn't in the insurance industry, I think I'd want to be an architect and design floor plans.
