Canadian storm losses top $45 million

CALGARY, Alberta--Severe storms in Alberta last week caused about $48 million Canadian ($45.2 million) in losses, according to the trade association for property/casualty insurers in Canada.

More than 6,500 claims for damage caused by the storms and flash flooding that occurred in the province on June 5 have been filed so far, with insurers expecting to pay $42 million Canadian ($39.6 million) in claims in Calgary and another $6 million Canadian ($5.6 million) in claims from Edmonton, according to the Insurance Bureau of Canada.
