LONDON—Paul Jardine, chief executive of Catlin Underwriting Agencies Ltd., has been elected chairman of the Lloyd's Market Association, the body that represents underwriters at Lloyd's of London.

Mr. Jardine succeeds Andrew Kendrick, chairman and CEO of ACE European Group, part of ACE Ltd.

"The market cannot afford to be complacent after the record results of 2006. Disciplined underwriting, professional standards—in terms of skills and qualifications—and the even closer attention of regulators, both domestic and international, are just some of the issues that we face this year," Mr. Jardine said in a statement.

Barnabas Hurst-Bannister, chairman of St. Paul Travelers Syndicate Management Ltd. was elected deputy chairman of the LMA at the association's annual meeting Monday.
