Generali profits increase in first quarter

TRIESTE, Italy—Assicurazioni Generali S.p.A. reported a 19.6% increase in net profit for the first quarter of 2007.

The Trieste, Italy-based insurer reported net profit of €715.4 million ($968.7 million) for the three months to March 31, it reported.

Generali posted nonlife gross written premiums of €6.4 billion ($8.7 billion) for the first quarter of 2007, up 14.5% compared with the same period last year.
