RIMS honors Kelly with Goodell Award

NEW ORLEANS--William J. Kelly, president of WJK Advisory L.L.C. and former president of the Risk & Insurance Management Society Inc., was awarded the Harry and Dorothy Goodell Award during Monday's opening session of the society's 2007 conference in New Orleans.

The award is the highest honor bestowed by RIMS and is awarded to an individual who has furthered risk management as a discipline and the goals of RIMS.

Before setting up his advisory company, Mr. Kelly was a director with PricewaterhouseCoopers L.L.P., and prior to that he was a managing director at J.P. Morgan & Co. in New York, where his responsibilities included corporate risk and insurance management and various other corporate resource areas.

In addition to serving as president of RIMS in 1995-1996, Mr. Kelly is also a former chairman of the International Federation of Risk & Insurance Management Assns. and former chairman of the insurance committee of the American Bankers Assn.

Mr. Kelly began his insurance career as an underwriter with INA in 1972.

RIMS presented several other awards during the opening session and at Monday's lunch.

  • The Arthur Quern Quality Award was presented to StructuredRisk Inc., which was recognized for developing risk management software designed to refine and improve construction best practices.

  • The Ron Judd Heart of RIMS Award was presented to Mary Lynn Bangs, director of risk management for Omni Hotels Corp. and a member of the Dallas-Fort Worth RIMS chapter. The award recognizes an individual for outstanding performance in furthering risk management at the chapter level.

  • The Cristy Award was presented to Scott M. Lee, associate risk manager at Harrah's Entertainment Inc. The award acknowledges the individual who earned the highest marks on the three exams for the Associate in Risk Management designation.
