NEW YORK—H. Elizabeth Mitchell, president of Platinum Underwriters Reinsurance Inc., has been selected as the 2007 recipient of the Assn. of Professional Insurance Women Inc.'s APIW Insurance Woman of the Year Award.

Ms. Mitchell will be honored June 14 at a cocktail reception and award ceremony at the New York Marriott Marquis.

Before her appointment to her current position in 2005, Ms. Mitchell was chief operating officer and executive vp of Platinum U.S. Before Platinum's spinoff from St. Paul Cos. Inc., she was executive vp of St. Paul Reinsurance Inc.

During her career, Ms. Mitchell has held various positions at English & American Insurance Group in both London and New York, at Tillinghast/Towers Perrin and at the Insurance Services Office Inc.

Active in various industry groups, Ms. Mitchell currently is vice chairman and a member of the executive committee of the board of the Brokers & Reinsurance Markets Assn., and is a member of the board of the Reinsurance Assn. of America. She is also a frequent speaker on industry and actuarial topics.

First presented in 1976, the APIW Insurance Woman of the Year Award recognizes an exceptional woman who has achieved prominence in the insurance industry.
