New York Life Insurance Co. has appointed Christopher O. Blunt senior vp and chief operating officer for the company's life and annuity operations. Mr. Blunt previously was executive vp of New York Life subsidiary New York Life Investment Management. Mr. Blunt replaces Sam Goldfinger, who has been named senior adviser to Ted Mathas, vice chairman and COO of New York Life Insurance Co. Separately, New York Life named
Russell Bundschuh executive vp and COO of New York Life International. Mr. Bundschuh joined New York Life in 2004 as first vp of corporate development.
Angela Braly will succeed Larry Glasscock as president and chief executive officer of WellPoint Inc. on Mr. Glasscock's June 1 retirement. Ms. Braly currently is executive vp and general counsel of the Indianapolis-based insurer. Mr. Glasscock will continue to serve as the company's chairman.
Allan Waters has been elected CEO of Hamilton, Bermuda-based White Mountains Insurance Group Ltd.'s reinsurance division. Mr. Waters--a director on White Mountains' board since November 2005 who previously held various management positions at the company, succeeds Tom Hutton, who will remain deputy chairman of the White Mountains Re Group board.

Walker Rainey as executive vp and CFO of Max Europe Holdings Ltd., the Dublin, Ireland-based holding company for Max Re Capital's European operating entities. Previously, he was senior vp and CFO of Max Europe Holdings.
Jim Sybert has been named president of Hylant Group's Tennessee office in Nashville. Before joining Hylant, he was managing director of the central region loss management services division for Willis Group Holdings Ltd.
Gary A. Amelio is joining ULLICO Inc. as president, retirement services. Mr. Amelio comes to the Washington-based union-owned multiline financial services organization from the Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board, where he was executive director.
