NEW ORLEANS—The Risk & Insurance Management Society Inc.'s annual conference later this month is conveniently scheduled between two weekends of the 2007 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.

Like Mardi Gras, Jazz Fest is an annual celebration that showcases New Orleans' heritage, music and food and attracts hundreds of thousands of spectators.

The festival will be held April 27-29 and May 4-6 at the Fair Grounds Race Course from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on each of its six days, with musical artists appearing on multiple stages at the same time.

Despite its moniker, Jazz Fest showcases a variety of musical styles, although the lineup always includes great local jazz, Cajun and rhythm and blues bands. Headliners at this year's festival include Rod Stewart, ZZ Top, Counting Crows, Ludacris and John Mayer.

In addition to the music, there also is a food fair, with more than 100 offerings of Louisiana and international foods, and a craft fair.

Among New Orleans' local hotspots that will be celebrating Jazz Fest during the week is Preservation Hall, the legendary jazz hall located in the French Quarter.

Known for its traditional jazz and its small dark wood interior, Preservation Hall will host a series of intimate concerts it is calling "Midnight Preserves" during the festival. Featured musical artists range from The Preservation Hall Jazz Band to New Orleans piano legend Jon Cleary to guitar virtuoso Charlie Hunter. The intimate concerts will be held April 26-29 and May 2-6.
