Travelers names vice chairman-chief legal officer

ST. PAUL, Minn.—Alan D. Schnitzer has been named vice chairman and chief legal officer of Travelers Cos. Inc., the insurer announced Tuesday.

In the newly created role, Mr. Schnitzer will oversee St. Paul, Minn.-based Travelers' legal, public policy and governmental affairs functions. He will report to Travelers' Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Jay S. Fishman, Travelers said in a statement.

Additionally, Mr. Schnitzer—who most recently served as partner at the New York-based law firm of Simpson Thacher & Bartlett L.L.P. and has acted as Travelers' lead outside counsel—will serve on the insurer's management committee, the statement said.
