BRUSSELS, Belgium—The European Consumer Affairs Commissioner Meglena Kuneva has announced that the European Commission will consider introducing collective redress mechanisms for consumers.

In setting out the E.C. consumer strategy for 2007 to 2013, Ms. Kuneva said the E.C. will take action to reinforce the monitoring of alternative dispute resolution programs, consider action on collective redress mechanisms for consumers for infringements of consumer protection rules and breaches of anti-trust rules, and implement a regulation to tackle cross-border scams, among other things.

"I want a citizen in Birmingham to feel as comfortable shopping for a digital camera from a website in Berlin or Budapest as they would in their high street," Ms. Kuneav said.
