Criteria for choosing Risk Manager of the Year

Ten criteria are used to score the nominations for the annual Business Insurance Risk Manager of the Year Award and Risk Management Honor Roll.

The panel of independent judges scores each nominee on a scale of one to 10, according to how well he or she:

  • Establishes and implements an effective risk management program within the organization.

  • Tackles and solves one or more major problems.

  • Innovatively applies the diverse tools of risk management and insurance.

  • Creatively and effectively uses insurance markets to serve the organization's needs.

  • Establishes a workable intelligence system inside and outside the organization, culminating in a flow of information about events and activities that affect risk management and insurance.

  • Skillfully performs the functions of management, including planning, organizing, directing and controlling.

  • Achieves the most effective program at optimum cost.

  • Develops technical expertise in risk management.

  • Exhibits an attitude and performs activities fostering advancement of the risk management profession.

  • Develops in his or her career.
