IAIS elects new chairman, committee

BASEL, Switzerland - The International Association of Insurance Supervisors,based in Basel, has elected Michel Flamee as chair of the IAIS ExecutiveCommittee, the association announced Thursday from its meeting in Dubai,United Arab Emirates.

Mr. Flamee is vice-chair of the Belgian Banking, Finance and InsuranceCommission and has served on the IAIS Executive Committee as vice-chairsince October 2004.

Mr. Flamee succeeds Alessandro Iuppa of the United States who has been chairof the IAIS Executive Committee since October 2004.

Walter Bell, commissioner of the Alabama Department of Insurance in the United States, was elected vice-chair of the association. He is president of the NationalAssociation of Insurance Commissioners based in Kansas City, Missouri.

The new composition of the IAIS Executive Committee is as follows: Mr.Flamee (Belgium), Chair; Mr. Bell (Alabama, USA), Vice-Chair; Tom Karp(Australia); Peter Braumüller (Austria); David Oakden (Canada); FlorenceLustman (France); Thomas Steffen (Germany); Peter Neville (Guernsey); LászlóAsztalos (Hungary); C S Rao (India); Nobuyoshi Chihara (Japan); BasselHindawi (Jordan); Manuel Aguilera-Verduzco (Mexico); Kwok Mun Low(Singapore); Mashudu Munyai (South Africa) and Ana Acosta y Lara (Uruguay).
