GUIDANCE FOR EMPLOYERS

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration outlined steps for employers to reduce workplace exposure to pandemic influenza. These include:

  • Encouraging sick employees to stay home.

  • Encouraging employees to wash their hands frequently with soap and water or with hand sanitizer.

  • Encouraging employees to cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue.

  • Avoiding close contact with co-workers and customers, keeping at least 6 feet of separation.

  • Regularly cleaning telephones, computers and other workplace surfaces and equipment.

  • Discouraging employees from using other employees' phones or equipment.
