AIG names first chief diversity officer

NEW YORK--American International Group Inc. has appointed Terri D. Austin as chief diversity officer, a new position providing oversight and leadership for the insurer's diversity efforts worldwide, AIG said Friday.

Ms. Austin, a 16-year AIG employee and formerly chief compliance officer for its domestic brokerage group, will be responsible for expanding and implementing AIG's diversity initiatives in the workforce and those relating to company products, suppliers, vendors and customers, according a statement by the company. She will be based in New York.

AIG President and Chief Executive Officer Martin J. Sullivan said the company is committed to the highest standards of inclusiveness to create a multicultural and diverse organization. "We are indeed fortunate to have as AIG's first chief diversity officer as an individual with Terri Austin's experience and demonstrated abilities," Mr. Sullivan said in the statement.
