Benefits veteran tapped as OPM deputy director

WASHINGTON--Howard Weizmann, a longtime benefits lobbyist and consultant, will be nominated by President Bush to be deputy director of the Office of Personnel Management, the White House announced Thursday.

Between 1988 and 1992, Mr. Weizmann was executive director of the Assn. of Private Pension and Welfare Plans, a Washington-based benefits lobbying group now known as the American Benefits Council. He later became a consultant at Watson Wyatt Worldwide in Washington.

Currently, Mr. Weizmann serves as president of the Private Sector Council, a nonprofit organization that shares the expertise of senior executives at very large corporations with federal agency leaders to help improve the quality of governmental services.
