Iuppa joins Zurich as government affairs head

WASHINGTON--Alessandro A. Iuppa will join Zurich Financial Services Group as a senior government affairs representative on Jan. 15, 2007, the insurer said Friday.

Mr. Iuppa is the immediate past-president of the National Assn. of Insurance Commissioners and Maine's insurance superintendent. He also serves as chair of the Executive Committee of the International Assn. of Insurance Supervisors.

In his new post as head of government and industry affairs for general insurance, Mr. Iuppa, who will be based in Washington, will be "responsible for managing the analytical and strategic review of public policy issues impacting Zurich's general insurance operations globally," the company said in a statement. Also, as chief government affairs officer for North America, Mr. Iuppa "will oversee Zurich's tactical execution of all legislative, regulatory and political activities in the region."

Mr. Iuppa recently announced that he planned to leave his regulatory post for private industry.
