  • ACE Ltd. launched a Global Day of Service to celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2005. More than 5,000 employees from 36 countries contributed to more than 170 projects. U.S.-based employees helped students, cleaned parks, sorted groceries at a food bank and collected donations for a women's shelter.
  • The Allstate Foundation has provided more than $2 million in grants to national and state domestic violence organizations since 2005.
  • California Insurance Council and its annual fund-raiser for the City of Hope National Medical Center. Since 1978, it has raised more than $9 million for that facility.
  • CNA Foundation provided $3.5 million in grants and contributions in 2005 as well as volunteer assistance for a wide range of civic projects in local areas. It also matched $520,000 in employee contributions.
  • New York Life Foundation provided a three-year, $225,000 grant to expand an after-school program for middle school students on New York's east side beginning this fall.
  • St. Baldrick's annual March 17th fund-raiser, begun by three reinsurance industry executives in 2000, has become the world's largest event raising funds for childhood cancer. In 2005, about $5 million was donated in pledges to participants who shaved their heads to express solidarity with cancer victims whose baldness is often a side effect of many cancer treatments.
