SAN FRANCISCO—Wholesaler BISYS Commercial Insurance Services Inc. has created an environmental risk unit to respond to broker clients' needs to address their insureds' environmental exposures.

In September, the San Francisco-based wholesaler purchased JCH Environmental Insurance Brokers, the environmental practice of Rockville Centre, N.Y.-based JCH Insurance Brokers. BISYS said the move was aimed at expanding its ability to provide risk management strategies for environmental exposures.

JCH Environmental Insurance Brokers provides risk management solutions to a wide range of businesses, including contracting, manufacturing, real estate, energy, mining and brownfield exposures.

Later last month, BISYS announced that it had hired Ken Cornell, a former American International Group Inc. executive, to help lead the new environmental risk unit. Mr. Cornell will be based in New York and will work with Jim Herrmann, president of JCH Environmental Insurance Brokers, in helping expand the environmental practice for BISYS.

BISYS is part of the Roseland, N.J.-based BISYS Group Inc.
