Unfair bias against U.K.'s infirm, says DRC

LONDON--Many employers in the United Kingdom are still treating employees with breast cancer and other long-term health conditions unfairly, despite legislation introduced last year to stop such discrimination, according to the Disability Rights Commission.

The DRC said that since an amendment to the Disability Discrimination Act was introduced in December 2005, it had taken an average of two calls per week from women with breast cancer complaining of unfair treatment at work.

The Disability Discrimination Act amendment was intended to protect workers with long-term health conditions such a cancer and multiple sclerosis against workplace discrimination from the point of diagnosis.
