Treasury Department appoints benefits counselPosted On: Sep. 12, 2006 12:00 AM CST
WASHINGTON--W. Thomas Reeder, a veteran employee benefits attorney, has been appointed benefits counsel at the Treasury Department.
Mr. Reeder had been Treasury's acting benefits counsel since early last year following the resignation of Bill Sweetnam, who left to become a principal in the Washington office of the Groom Law Group.
Before joining the Treasury Department, Mr. Reeder was a partner with the law firm Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker L.L.P.
Mr. Reeder's appointment comes as the Treasury Department will be coming under pressure to issue regulations required to implement pension funding reform legislation passed last month by Congress. That measure has been described as the most comprehensive changes to pension law since the enactment of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act in 1974.
