* Due to an editing error, an item in the Oct. 19 issue incorrectly stated that Arthur Schwartz was leaving the National Society of Professional Engineers to join a law firm. In December, Mr. Schwartz will become a vp at Ames & Gough, an insurance agency with offices in Boston and Washington, D.C.

* The Business Insurance stock index was miscalculated in the Oct. 16 and Oct. 23 issues. On Oct. 16, the index should have been reported as 1734.06, up 13.66%. On Oct. 23, it should have been reported as 1733.09, down 0.06%. The Citicorp merger with Travelers Group wasn't reflected in the stock index for both weeks, thereby not downplaying actual gains.
