BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

SAN FRANCISCO -- The City by the Bay was the setting for this year's National Educational Conference & Expo sponsored by the Self-Insurance Institute of America Inc.

The 18th annual gathering saw about 2,000 attendees assemble in San Francisco Sept. 22-26 for 60 sessions on topics of interest to third-party administrators, employers, risk managers and others.

The educational sessions were structured for newcomers as well as old hands attending the conference. Seminar topics ranged from "The ABCs of Stop Loss" to more advanced discussions, such as "Appropriate Limits and Retentions to Maximize Shareholder Value." Managed care, workers compensation and planning for the millennium were among other seminar topics.

Next year's conference will be held Oct. 12-16 at the Washington Hilton & Towers in Washington, D.C. Information is available from SIIA at P.O. Box 15466, Santa Ana, Calif. 92735; 800-851-7789; fax: 714-508-4904.
