INVESTIGATION OF Y2K CONFLICTS LACKING

Posted On: Aug. 23, 1998 12:00 AM CST

To the editor: I am writing in reference to the article "Co-author rejects AIG D&O report" by Gavin Souter (BI, Aug. 3) I, for one, agree with attorney Dan A. Bailey's comment that "Year 2000 claims generally will be covered under an insurer's standard D&O policy to the same extent as other types of similar claims."

Other things being equal, I would expect that many experienced directors and officers liability insurance brokers, underwriters, etc., would also agree. Perhaps the conflicts of interest that suddenly concern the insurance community have led many to refrain from commenting, lest they annoy valued clients or jeopardize their relationships with insurers holding contrary positions.

Business Insurance should be investigating these conflicts and not merely be passing along the comments of the insurance community. Apparently, investigative reporting is unknown to this publication.
