Information in the 15th annual Directory of Reinsurance Intermediaries was gathered from responses to questionnaires sent to companies by Business Insurance. The directory is published as an editorial service; there is no charge to be included.
The directory lists companies that provide reinsurance brokerage services. Companies must generate at least $500,000 in gross revenues from brokering reinsurance and must provide revenue information to be included in the directory.
After the name and address of the company, financial and operational information for 1996 and 1995 is given, including the premium volume related to reinsurance, percentage of treaty and facultative business (as a percentage of reinsurance premium volume) and gross revenues related to reinsurance. The number of total employees and those assigned to treaty and facultative reinsurance are also given on a full-time equivalent basis.
Next, the year founded and parent company (if any) are noted, as well as the locations of branch offices and subsidiaries brokering reinsurance. Acquisitions in 1996 and so far in 1997 are listed next. Particular types of risks in which an intermediary specializes are noted under specialties.
A list of countries in which the company conducts business as a reinsurance intermediary is also provided. In addition, membership in the Brokers & Reinsurance Markets Assn. is noted. Principal officers and a contact for readers seeking more information complete the listings.
When a company is newly founded, financial information is noted in the listings as NA (not available).
