MEXICO CITY-About 465 insurance industry executives and academics attended the 33rd annual seminar of the International Insurance Society Inc. held in Mexico City July 13-17.

Registrants came to Mexico from 47 countries to attend the range of plenary sessions and discussion groups on the theme of "Strategies for Growth."

Many of the discussions centered on the consolidation of the global insurance industry and how it would impact the future growth of all insurance companies.

According to John P. Meyerholz, president and chief executive officer of the IIS, the consolidation illustrated insurers' attempts to successfully reposition themselves in an increasingly international business world.

"Consolidations, joint ventures and partnerships reflect the positioning of insurers to be on the winning side of the global economic revolution," he said at the meeting.

The 1998 seminar will be held at the Regent Sydney Hotel in Sydney, Australia, July 12-16.
