A magnitude-7.1 earthquake struck central Mexico on Sept. 19, bringing down dozens of buildings in Mexico City and nearby states and killing nearly 230 people, ABC News reported. The quake interrupted electricity and cell phone service in many areas. The government declared a state of disaster in Mexico City. The quake follows a magnitude-8.1 quake that hit off Mexico's southern coast on Sept. 7.
