Pennsylvania lawmakers unanimously passed legislation that would require workplace safety committees to provide substance abuse resources.
S.B. 147, which passed the House on Friday and the Senate in May, would amend current workers compensation law to require that workplaces that wish to certify their established safety committee with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry must provide information to employees about the risk associated with substance abuse, including opioid painkiller use. The legislation also requires the state department to notify, develop and make available resources to allow employers to comply with this new section within 21 days.
Lawmakers also unanimously passed legislation appropriating money from the Workmen’s Compensation Administration Fund for expenses relating to the administration of workers compensation and related acts from July 1, 2021, through June 30, 2022.
The legislation passed the Senate on Friday and passed the House on June 16.
Both bills will go to Gov. Tom Wolf’s desk for his signature.
